Asaya NYSC Kogi Wraps-Up Inter-Platoon Sports Competition

The NYSC inter-platoon sports competition at Asaya camp, Kogi State, came to an end with various platoons battling it out in volleyball and football across male and female categories. 



The male fotball final game saw a thrilling conclusion as Platoon 4 claimed victory over Platoon 6 in a dramatic penalty shootout.


Before the match, the State Coordinator urged the players to compete with passion while avoiding injuries. 

 

The game started on a competitive note, with both teams pushing for an early lead. Platoon 6 thought they had found the breakthrough in the 16th minute, but their goal was disallowed due to a foul committed by their defender.


The match remained goalless after regulation time, leading to a tense penalty shootout. Platoon 4 emerged victorious, winning 5-4 after a crucial miss by a Platoon 6 striker.





The final standings for each event are as follows:


Male Volleyball

1st Position: Platoon 4

2nd Position: Platoon 5

3rd Position: Platoon 8


Female Volleyball

1st Position: Platoon 2

2nd Position: Platoon 1

3rd Position: Platoon 4


Female Football

1st Position: Platoon 7

2nd Position: Platoon 6

3rd Position: Platoon 2


Male Football

1st Position: Platoon 4

2nd Position: Platoon 6

3rd Position: Platoon 5




Speaking to head of Sports for Kogi state, 

Coach Hassan Aliyu commended the effort and skill of the players, noting, “The corps members gave their all in every sport. The standard of football was so high, with players showcasing artistry on the field. Some of these players are likely to join the NYSC Lokoja team, as scouts were present to spot exceptional talent.”


He also mentioned that the NYSC is registered with the Nigerian Football Federation and competes in the state league, providing an opportunity for players to further develop their careers.




Francis, the captain of Platoon 4 and the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), expressed his excitement after the win. “We thank God for this result. It was a team effort, driven by cooperation and determination. I hope one day I can play for the Super Eagles and explore the world.”




Coach Kendu of Platoon 4 attributed the victory to teamwork and discipline, saying, “The competition felt like professional football. We applied tactical discipline, and the team’s spirit was built on unity and collaboration.”
